Austin Film Festival
There’s a reason MovieMaker Magazine consistently names AFF one of the top fests worth the entry fee. When you win at AFF not only do you get some crisp cash-ola, you also get the best statuette ever made: a muscular 5-pound bronze typewriter. It makes Oscar and Emmy look like Ken and Barbie. Some call it El Bronzo. And after you win and are clutching your big fat trophy like the all-star filmmaker you are, you’ll likely be standing right next to other award winning filmmakers like Nancy Myers, Marta Kauffman, and Paul Feig. For real.
Oh, and be aware that the Jury Award winners of our Narrative Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short categories officially qualify for an Academy Award. See there – it’s entirely possible that you could park that Ken Doll right next to El Bronzo on your mantel! But it ain’t gonna happen if you don’t show up.

Word on the Street:
“We played over 30 festivals on our first film and although we had great experiences we have never received such a warm welcome before.”
-Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine, writers/directors, 2016 Comedy Vanguard Feature Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse
“As an attendee, I found [Austin Film Festival] to be exactly what was promised; I can honestly say, even as a fundamentally introverted guy, I made many great new contacts and, more importantly, made some great, new, actual friends- people who I met, then bumped into, then went to dinner with, then set up play dates with our kids back in NYC, all the while having great fun talking movies. As a writer/director with a selected film, I was deeply honored to share the bill with so many great shorts. Thanks for taking a chance on a first time filmmaker. I'm leaving Austin so inspired as a filmmaker.”
-Jonathan Todd Ross, writer/director 2016 Narrative Short The Universe of Scotch and Haagen-Dazs
